Honey I Shrunk the Kit! #5

Hello crafty pals and blog buddies!

Can you hear me squeal?
You might want to grab a brew and a slice of cake ... I've got news!

I have been bursting with excitement to share this happy news for a
few weeks now and I can tell you it's been tough - not to burst!!!!

I've been invited to join the 'Honey, I shrunk the Kit!' team

If you haven't already heard of it then I'll tell you a little more!
It's the 'dream child' of 3 superstar card making talents:
Hazel Hodgkins: Hazel's Paper Designs
Sarah Gray: Funky Fossil Designs
Shona Chambers: Twine Around

Every few months one of them puts together a kit of cardmaking goodies
then sends it around the world to the other members. Each of them creates 3-4
cards which are all posted on their individual blogs! Happy Days eh!

Well little me and another of my super, fun and fabulous buddies;
Sandie of London Days are joining the team from today!

Honey I Shrunk the Kit logo

So my first outing with these yummy teamies started when I received
my bundle of happy mail goodies from Sarah (Funky Fossil), our host for
Honey, I shrunk the Kit! #5 and here's a little piccy of what arrived.

Here's the contents:
Stamps: WPlus9 (Sparkle and Shine) and Avery Elle (Many Thanks)
Dies: Lil’Inkers (Diamond), Hero Arts (Star Background) &
WPlus9 (Sparkle & Shine Words)
2 x A6 sheets patterned paper, mini gems, strip of silver glitter card

And here's my cards with the extra bits used from my own stash:

Here a piece of patterned paper is used as the background to my shaker
and I've heat-embossed the die-cut words using WOW Metallic Silver sparkle.

Additional items: Paper Smooches - Pinked Circle die
Uniko - 'It's Your Day' sentiment
Little Things from Lucy - Shaker sequins

Next up a super clean and simple design as I wanted to draw the eye to the gleaming,
silver glitter, sparkling, die-cut gem. The die-cut star background is used as a stencil
on this card with some silver pigment ink to add some interest to the card base.

Additional items: Sizzix Framelits - Banner Die
Papermania - blue gems

I couldn't give up on the die-cut star background and decided to smear it with
silver pigment ink then quickly heat emboss with clear EP to add shine and texture.
The 'you're a' sentiment and gem are coloured using my new favourite DI: Wilted Violet!
A few spritz of water to the distress inks add a bit more interest and a strip of the
patterned paper across the centre with some more gems for added sparkle.

Additional items: WPlus9 - Conversation Bubble die
Papermania - purple gems

I think I got a little carried away with the colours here!
Watercolour-wash using distress inks in Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers
and Dusty Concord. Spritzed with Perfect Pearls & water once dry.
A little strip of that gorgeous silver glitter tape adhered to the edge.
Using the same distress inks I've blended the circular sentiment panel from the kit
and popped it on 3d foam. The stamped gems were coloured using Zig Clear
Brush pens and smothered with Glossy accents before attaching to the panel.
Just a couple of sequins from Pretty Pink Posh from my stash for this one.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you've enjoyed seeing how I've used this
fantastic kit. Please do a hop, skip and a jump over to Hazel, Sandie
Sarah and Shonas' blogs to see how they were inspired too.

Lastly a HUGE thanks to these wonderful ladies for inviting
me to join their team. Loved the first kit and can't wait for the next!

  1. These cards are just fab, Sarah....each one made me gasp :) I love the silver embossing on the star die cut and the cascade of gems against that beautifully inked background! The sparkle and shine die cut was crying out for a shaker and you have showcased the diamond die cut perfectly with the starry background. Thanks for blinging it up with us this month....I can't wait to see your kit xx

  2. Oh! My! Gosh!!! Is it too late to 'unpost' my cards? Just picking myself off the floor. Gasp-worthy to the extreme! I cannot pick a favourite. Each is so clever and different in their own right. What has captured my imagination is how you have created a real glinty gem quality using the spritz technique with your third card. So effective! I keep scrolling back to look at it. I need to give that technique a go. WOW! Sarah, Shona and I are so excited to have you and Sandie join our little team! Thanks so much for sharing the fun with us!

  3. Wow Sarah, you have really made this kit shine!!! I love the mint coloured shaker and you did so well embossing your word dies. I tried water colouring mine, complete disaster!! Fabulous idea to use that background die as a stencil (didn't even cross my mind!!) and the banner of white and glitter really shows off that gem. That bright purple with your perfectly embossed die-cut is so eye catching, it stunning! Your last card is spectacular, all those soft colours and shining gems, think it might be my favourite!! I'm so glad you are part of our little team and hopefully my kit will be as much fun to use as Sarah's was!!

  6. These are amazing Sarah, you sure used this kit to perfection. Love the shaker card-great way to use the sentiment. Love the subtle use of the silver at the edge of the banner in the second card. The silver ink and clear embossing really is a fab way to make this die the star in the third card. And love the baby gems in the last card-I was lost with what to do with these but all the others and you have inspired me xx
