Honey I Shrunk The Kit #12 - Going Up

Hey there friends, it's time for another day out with my fellow Honey Babes for another HISTK post! I can't believe how quickly the weeks passed as it doesn't seem long since we were showcasing Shona's super cute set. This time our host is the lovely Hazel, who named this kit 'Going Up' - read on for more details ...

There was so much to work with that I ran out of time before using everything but it does mean I can play some more with what's left and here's the cards I've made so far ...

For this first one I die-cut a window in a panel of black cardstock using the MFT Rectangel Peek-a-boo die and popped that up on fun foam for dimension. A piece of design paper behind with my little koala scene. The sentiment is die-cut with a snow-drift die, also MFT Die-namics and the images and sentiment are all coloured with Promarkers.

It's an Anything Goes Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge so I'd like to link my card up there.

Here's I've coloured the die-cut butterflies with distress inks, before placing them in an embossing folder from WeR Memory Keepers Next Level folders. Another MFT die used here to separate the black and white card stock - basic stitched border dies. The sentiment is die-cut using a Sizzix oval stax and I've added some colour-coordinated enamel dots - just because I love them and it needed a little extra 'lift' I thought!

First of all I created a frame for these lovely die-cuts using the WPlus9 Sunshine Layers dies. The images were coloured with promarkers and fuzzy cut (where necessary) before mounting my little scene on foam or directly on the cardbase for differing dimension. I couldn't resist adding those gorgeous diamond gems for extra detail and the sentiment seemed perfect for the scene.

As luck would have it when I made this card I had been using the 'Time To Party' set by Clearly Besotted and I realised the balloon die-cuts (which I don't own) were the perfect fit! Hey what a stroke of luck. Using a little more of the design paper I picked 3 colours to tone with it and stamped the balloons in Altenew Inks, adding a little water to spread the pigment on the water-colour cardstock. I coloured the 'make a wish' die-cut sentiment with the same inks and adhered everything to the card also making use of the twine as the strings for my balloons.

Over at Time Out their having a 'celebrations' themed challenge and I'd like to play along there although sadly I've certainly not twisted with the one layer option!

It was such a joy to work with this kit Hazel and thanks so much for sending it and inspiring us with such gorgeous bits and pieces from your stash ...

  1. Oh my, I don't know where to start! I love the cute koala against the patterned paper, it creates such an adorable scene and the embossing folders add amazing dimension to the butterflies on your second card. I love the way you have used black on both of them to create real contrast. The soft colours on your kite card add to the airy feel and then you have packed a punch with bright colours on your balloon card. AND you haven't even used the sweet bella images from the kit! These are fabulous cards, Sarah - great to see that we have made such different designs from the same materials xx

  2. I'm the same as Sarah, there is so much going on here!! Love how you highlighted the koala's with the black frame, funny to see we used the same paper behind them!! Such a cool idea to use the embossing folder on the butterflies, would never have thought to do that. Their colours are so vibrant too! Your pastel scene with the kite is so sweet. You did a fantastic job fussy cutting the kite, going around that string drove me nuts!! I was trying to work out a way to use the twine, this looks fantastic with your balloons and love the bright colours too. Once again you rocked this kit and Hazel did a fab job putting it together!!

  3. Honestly, you are so, so clever, Sarah!!! I pop over, swoon, and don't know where to start! You girls have literally worked magic with this simple little set! Talk about making less into more!!! ok, so I think I made less into less, but that's another story... I am spun out by how you used that patterned paper! I would never have thought to back it against those koalas - masterstroke! I am just a little in love with your butterfly card - I am intrigued by that EF - what an AMAZING effect it creates - and the colours are SO dramatic against the black, and those enamel dots are just PERFECT! The soft pastels in the 'soar' card are such a delicate contrast - love how you coloured those clouds, and your fingers worked magic with that twine in for those balloons. Your manual dexterity must be way up there. I was having cadenzas just trying to tie the odd knot behind the balloons! Just beautiful. Every one of them! Thank you so much for being part of the Honeys! Mwah!

  4. Sorry I'm late! (would you expect anything else? haha)
I'm gonna call you 'super stylish layout Sarah' from now on. It amazes me how you continue to come up with fab designs with every post. Loving the black panel with the aperture (I bet that you're loving that die now aren't you?!) and what a great background for the koalas. I must have zoned in on the balloon paper and completely forgot there was something on the reverse! lol Love your upward swoop of butterflies, such great colours and texture, and more black, it looks awesome. A completely different feel to your kite card, loving those colours, which are perfect for the airy theme. And then 'zing' in your face fab colours for your balloons, and fantastic work with that twine...FAB! xx
